Be part of one of the UK’s biggest citizen science projects and help protect our butterflies by taking part in the Big Butterfly Count 2026.
Join Butterfly Conservation at the Marble Arch Caves or come along to a relaxed Walk and Talk at Killykeeghan Nature Reserve, where you’ll discover the wonderful world of butterflies while contributing to an important national survey.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned wildlife enthusiast, this is a fantastic opportunity to slow down, connect with nature and learn how your observations can help monitor the health of our environment. Every butterfly you count provides valuable information that supports conservation efforts and helps us understand how our changing climate and habitats are affecting these beautiful insects.
The friendly Butterfly Conservation team will provide everything you need to get involved, including:
- Butterfly identification charts
- Survey equipment
- Expert guidance and tips on how to take part
- Advice on recording and submitting your sightings
This event takes place at two locations. Join the Butterfly Conservation Team at the Marble Arch Caves from 10am or travel in your vehicle to Killykeeghan Nature Reserve for 1pm to get involved.
