Rescue Practice at Marble Arch Caves
On Sunday 13th April, the Marble Arch Caves became the unique backdrop for a major multi-agency rescue training exercise – and this time, it wasn’t the mountains that took centre stage, but the stalactites!
We were delighted to welcome the North West Mountain Rescue Team (NWMRT) as they traded their usual high ground for the depths of our show cave. They were joined by the Irish Cave Rescue Organisation (ICRO), the Police Service of Northern Ireland Search and Rescue Team (PSNI SAR), and members of our own Marble Arch Caves staff for a swift water rescue scenario along the boat section of the cave.
This collaborative training event provided a rare and valuable opportunity for all agencies to enhance their skills, strengthen inter-agency teamwork, and navigate the unique challenges of an underground environment. The exercise showcased the importance of preparedness, communication, and adaptability in specialist rescue situations.
We’re proud to have hosted this dynamic and immersive training day and to support the ongoing work of these dedicated rescue organisations.
A huge thank you to everyone involved—your enthusiasm and professionalism made it a splashing success!
Because whether it’s above or below ground… teamwork always rocks!
