International Year of Caves And Karst Opening Ceremony

 

The Marble Arch Caves is joining in the celebrations in 2021 of the world’s first International Year of Caves and Karst (IYCK).

The virtual Opening Ceremony of the International Year of Caves and Karst takes place today at 2:00pm. You can watch it here

Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony will include a talk explaining caves, karst, their values and challenges. News about the first International Cave Animal of the Year and a beautiful video. The Grand Opening Ceremony and Celebration will occur at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris and will be scheduled when the pandemic is over.

The International Year of Caves and Karst is organised by the International Union of Speleology, a worldwide organization of cave and karst explorers, scientists, managers, and educators. The IYCK will be the largest ever event showcasing caves and karst landscapes across the world.
