Limestone Landscapes: A Rockin’ Field Trip for Primary Students this February!

We think science totally ROCKS so, as part of our contribution to Northern Ireland Science Festival 2026, the Cave Crew of the Marble Arch Caves are excited to host an activity which will take learning to a whole ‘new’ level…..above the ground!

Join us in bringing science outdoors with a delightful blend of education and adventure as we explore the rich heritage of Killykeeghan National Nature Reserve (ASSI), a site just 10mins drive from the Marble Arch Caves.

 

The captivating landscape resting above a network of cave passageways and chambers offers the perfect location to bring together young minds and learn about the importance of conservation.

What’s Included?

  • An interactive guided trail with knowledgeable guides and study booklets.
  • Delve into the human history and heritage of this hidden gem in County Fermanagh
  • Uncover the unique geology, stunning landforms and the interesting biodiversity.
  • Activities designed to encourage teamwork and communication skills.

Armed with an activity booklets and maps, students will set off on an adventure to unlock the secrets of this fascinating location. An interactive activity will be setup in McGrath’s Cottage, a site of local historical significance providing a glimpse into the past.

Students from cross-community backgrounds and shared education schools are invited to come along and connect with the natural world in meaningful ways.

Bookings -Express your interest via email to mac.development@fermanaghomagh.com. Tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, however if you would like to add one of your school classes to our reserve list please let us know. Schools must be connected via Shared Education, or, be prepared to join students together on a cross-community basis with another group. The capacity of this event is: 60 students max per day.

Information – This event requires travel to a site 10mins from the Marble Arch Caves Visitor Centre. Please be prepared to travel to this location in your own transport. 1 teacher/adult supervisor from each school/education group must be present in a supervisory capacity. Booklets, pencils, maps and some fieldwork equipment will be provided. The Marble Arch Caves will gather group information upon booking. This event is weather dependent. In the case of inclement weather Marble Arch Caves will endeavour to advise you as soon as possible f the event needs to be postponed or cancelled.

Tickets – this is a free-to-attend event as part of our contribution to the Northern Ireland Science Festival 2026. The Marble Arch Caves reserves the right to amend, postpone or cancel bookings.

*This event is catered toward school children and educational groups in Primary (KS2) education. Homeschoolers/Home-schooling groups are welcome, however we would kindly ask that a minimum of 15 students/children are in attendance in order for the event to go ahead*
