Exceed Your Expectations with Student Work Experience at Marble Arch Caves
It’s always a delight to welcome students to the Marble Arch Caves to undertake some work experience and this week we were joined by Kerry who studies at South West College Dungannon. Kerry worked behind the scenes this week with staff in our Operations, Visitor Services and Development teams, getting to grips with the inner workings of the Visitor Centre and showcave. It’s not easy jumping into work with lots of new faces and tasks to complete but it’s been an absolute pleasure welcoming her into the MAC team, even if was just for a few days. Kerry was kind enough to write a short blog about her experience;
” I’m Kerry a student from South West College in Dungannon studying Level 3 NCFE Travel and Tourism Extended diploma and as part of my course we are asked to partake in a work placement revolving around the tourism industry. I have always had an interest in Marble Arch Caves so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to be able to see what happens behind the scenes of a large tourist attraction while also feeding into my own curiosity of the caves itself. I worked 4 days 9-5 Monday – Wednesday and 9-3 on Thursday, it really flew by!
How I would describe my placement with Marble Arch Caves would be, insightful, inspiring, a unique and fun experience. I had such an amazing time learning about what makes a great tourist attraction, great! From the visitor services, to the operations team as well as the events and education team and the tour guides taking me along with them on their day to day tasks and tours to build my knowledge and confidence. If you’re interested in a career travel and tourism and want to do a placement this place and its staff will definitely exceed your expectations.”
