Opening of National Caving Library

The Speleological Union of Ireland was delighted to announce the opening of the National Caving Library for Ireland and Northern Ireland. An opening ceremony was held during the annual SUICRO Caving Symposium, at 1.00pm on the 29th of October in Belcoo Enterprise Centre, Belcoo, County Fermanagh.
The “Dr M A Parkes Caving Library” hosts a large collection of publications and other documents relating to caves in Ireland, Northern Ireland, and also many International volumes. Named in honour of the former Speleological Union of Ireland Librarian, Dr Matthew Parkes, a curator at the National Museum of Ireland, geologist, speleologist and mining historian, who passed away unexpectedly in October 2020, the library has been relocated from Dublin to its new site in Belcoo over the past year. Belcoos Enterprise Centre is located just a 10 minutes drive from the Marble Arch Caves Visitor Centre.
The Speleological Union of Ireland thanked the Marble Arch Caves and Fermanagh and Omagh District Council for their support and contribution to the fitting of the Library, including the provision of the sign and framing of several surveys and photographs for the walls of the facility.
