*Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail – Essential Maintenance Works*
Essential maintenance works will be on-ongoing on the Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail  located within Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark, from Wednesday 21 August to Wednesday 18 September, subject to weather conditions.  It is anticipated the Trail will remain open during the works.  Please adhere to all on-site safety signage and instruction from the Contract team during this time.  We apologise for any inconvenience.

Explore the stunning Cuilcagh Mountain on the Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail. This popular walking route takes you through breathtaking landscapes and offers fantastic views.

Key Information:
Length: 4 miles (6 Km) linear route.
Difficulty: Moderate – Difficult
Duration: 2-5 hours Depending on your individual level of fitness.

What to Expect:
Terrain: Gravel track , wooden stepped boardwalk. Your final ascent is via a steep section of steps, these are not for the faint of heart!
Scenery: The walking route meanders through one of the largest expanses of blanket bog in Northern Ireland.
Highlights: The viewing platform positioned at the edge of the mountain plateau offers breath-taking views over the surrounding landscape.
Land: Dogs are not permitted on this walk. The trail is through working farmland and a European Designated Special Area of Conservation.

Tips for Visitors:
1.Wear sturdy footwear (runners/walking shoes) and weather-appropriate clothing.
2.Carry water and snacks.
3.Follow Leave No Trace principles to keep the trail beautiful.
4.Be prepared for changing weather conditions.
5.Bring sun screen, insect repellent.
6. In an Emergency: call 999 or 101 and ask for Mountain Rescue.
7. There are not toilet facilities along the trail, there are toilet facilities at KillyKeeghan Nature Reserve (see information below)
8. Ensure you have adequate car parking organised prior to arrival (see below for free/paid options).

Did You Know?

Access to the summit of Cuilcagh Mountain beyond the Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail viewing platform is not permitted. The habitat in this area is fragile, we ask visitors to keep to the designated path and to remain within the confines of the viewing platform. Your cooperation with this is appreciated.

Getting to the Start (by Car)

There are two options for parking for your walk on the Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail.

Option 1

Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail main car park (on attached map location 1). This car park is located at the start of the Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail and can accommodate a limited number of cars and coach parking. This car park is privately owned and tickets can be purchased on arrival.

Option 2- 

Killykeegan Nature Reserve car park (on attached map location 2). This car park is located a further 0.7 miles/1 km past the entrance for the Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail. This car park is free and can accommodate cars and mini-buses and is open 10:00am – 4:00pm year-round . There are toilet facilities, picnic area and interpretative centre provided.

The Marble Arch Caves Visitor Centre car park  is not available for people walking the Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail.  This car park is monitored and outside the Marble Arch Caves operational hours the car park is locked.

How to get here

(Follow the signs for the Marble Arch Caves Visitor Centre from Enniskillen)

Take the A4 Sligo Road from Enniskillen. Turn left onto the A32 Swanlinbar Road. Turn right onto the Marble Arch road. After several mile, you will approach a turn to the left (signage for Marble Arch Caves) turn left here. Along this narrow road, there will be a sign on your left hand side for the Cuilcagh Mountain Park this is car park option 1, for car park option 2 continue along the road for a further 1 miles/1.2 km the Killykeegan Nature Reserve car park is signed and located on your right hand side.

KILLYKEEGHAN NATURE RESERVE – Public toilets and free car parking 1 mile from Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail (Open daily from 10:00am – 4:00pm) follow the road signs.


Dogs

Dogs are not permitted, the area is a working farm and a European Designated Special Area of Conservation.

EVENTS AND WALKING GROUPS INFORMATION 

For safety, conservation and insurance reasons walk leaders and event organisers are not permitted to organise, advertise or run an event of any nature in or along the Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail where participants exceed 20 without prior written consent from the Marble Arch Caves. This  should be submitted well in advance of the planned walk or event.

General information
Access to the summit of Cuilcagh Mountain beyond the Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail viewing platform is not permitted. Please stay on the designated path and within the viewing platform. The habitat is fragile, so we kindly ask visitors to respect the environment by not straying from the route. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Walk Leaders:

  • It is important to choose a walk that suits everyone in your group.
  • Weather conditions on the Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail can be quick to change & become quickly inhospitable all year round.
  • Equip yourself for walking in a mountainous area with; waterproof clothing, boots with good grip and ankle support, spare clothing, map, compass, first aid, food, drink etc are essential.
  • Be aware that mobile reception in the area is poor. Let someone know where you have gone and when you expect to be back.
  • In an Emergency: call 999 or 101 and ask for Mountain Rescue.
